On June 30th 2025, the technology supporting Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) electricity meters will be discontinued. The RTS uses a radio signal to communicate with these types of electricity meters, instructing them to switch between peak and off-peak rates based on the time of day. As the radio signal is being shut down, this means RTS meters won't be able to switch between rates properly, leading to incorrect billing and issues with heating/hot water. Therefore, it's very important that these meters are upgraded to smart meters before the shutdown takes place.

The UK office was proudly represented by Rachel Knight and Adil Ahmed at a Hackathon organized by the Integrated Power Business Unit of TotalEnergies — a three-day development marathon dedicated to innovation.
Starting in La Défense, Rachel Knight (Collections Data Manager within the Credit Team) and Adil Ahmed (Product and Go-to-Market Manager within the Marketing Team) - who competed in separate teams - travelled to Château de Bellinglise to meet their teammates from Spain, France, and Brussels. Each team was assigned a volunteer from the IPBU Innovation team and a ‘Start-up coach’ with experience from innovative technology companies such as Meta and Apple.
What an epic tournament!
Let’s set the scene. A 20 strong squad, most of us never having played a game of touch rugby before in their lives. A quick trip to Sports Direct for quality rugby boots. Two ‘training’ sessions, yes two! One ‘how to play touch rugby’ YouTube video later and we’d arrived in Belgium.
We stepped off the tour bus to a flurry of TotalEnergies paps and the Black-Eyed Peas ‘I gotta feeling’ belting out (hands up who’s just sung Woo hoo at this point) and it was game on.

We had a quick strategy meeting in the sports bar, then it was on to the first night’s shindig… Represent your country night. After a variety of fancy dress ideas were knocked about pre-tournament, we decided on The Peaky Blinders and so all donned our waistcoats and flat caps and off we went, not really knowing what to expect. Maybe something low key on the first night? We didn’t expect to step into the 1990s Hacienda! 400 TotalEnergies employees, all representing. There was a ‘chip’ presentation, chip limbo, classic tunes from the DJ, and some questionable dancing well into the early hours, and it was almost as if we all forgot we were there for a touch rugby tournament…the 6:30am alarm soon sorted that out.

As a part of its Cybersecurity awareness program, the Company conducts each semester a Phishing awareness campaign to check employee’s awareness level and train collaborators to detect cyber-attacks and to report suspicious emails. Antony Green, IT Security Manager for TGPUK, tells us more.

The Embedded team recently closed an a major Greencoat solar tender at the end of March 2024. What does this concretely mean for the Company?
The Embedded team aims to source profitable green and traceable sources of power (including associated REGO certificates) for TGPUK's business. This green power can then be offered to supply customers under various green tariffs.
On Monday 15th April, Adil Ahmed (Product and Go-to-Market Manager) and Ben Charles (Senior Originator) soft launched their Traceable Hourly Products in Major Business.
Hourly Renewables are the new hot thing in the sustainable energy space, and after consulting with sales and working with Granular Energy (including a trial with our client Savills), they extended their trial phase to attract 10-15 keen customers with a total availability of approximately 2TWh across our Bundled portfolio.

Although to be a fair it was much more enjoyable than the Paris Metro at rush hour, as I managed to find a quite corner to enjoy a beer and a burger while I waited for by 21:40 flight home (I can recommend the pulled beef burger if you ever find yourself in a similar situation).
The relationship between TotalEnergies UK and Sigma Connected is soon to be two years old. The Collections team had the opportunity to visit Sigma’s Office in Cape Town (South-Africa) early this year and capitalise on those few days to strengthen the bonds with the South-African team and ensure that debt is in good hands for 2024… and beyond!
