The Better Energy School Awards help to enable environmental issues to be taught in a cross-curricular way, so that subjects like Art, English, History, Mathematics and Home Economics could form the focus of the project in an equally valid way to the more obvious approach to be taken through Science, Technology and Geography. What is more, the Awards help make learning fun!

Total has supported these awards for many years, working closely with the charity “The Young People’s Trust for the Environment”.

The categories are:

Totally Active
The Totally Active category is for projects involving work in the school grounds e.g. sensory gardens, ponds, wildlife areas, recycling schemes and composting.

Totally Scientific
For projects involving any aspect of Science, for example: Identifying plants and animals; studying living things and their habitats; carrying out experiments or looking at life cycles.

Totally Creative
Totally Creative is the category for environmentally themed art, music, drama and poetry. Examples include: save the planet song; pollution rap and art inspired by the environment.

Totally Clued Up
The Totally Clued Up category is for projects researching any aspect of the environment – can be incorporated into Geography, Science, Maths, I.T. and History e.g. wild bird feeding or recycling.
