It’s that time of year when we start to notice our energy bills creeping up. Here’s a few tips to help you save money this winter.
- Switching your energy supplier could save around £300 per year. According to Ofgem, 58% of people are on a standard or default tariff, meaning there could be big savings to be made. Look After My Bills will make this even easier for you, as once you’ve signed up with them they will compare prices and make the switch.
- Get a water efficient shower head. They could save you up to £75 a year on gas for water heating, as well as £120 on water bills if you have a water meter.
- Invest in technology. If you have a few ££ to spend, turning your home into a smart zone could be the way to go. Hive, as well as having a very catchy advert jingle, could save you £130 a year on your heating bills. Nest learns the temperatures you like when you’re at home, out and away, and adjusts itself accordingly. They calculate that UK customers will save between 8.4% and 16.5% on their bills.
- Turns out your Nan was onto something. Draught excluders can save £20 a year through unwanted gaps. If you can spend a bit more, professional draft excluding will go even further than this.
- Generate your own energy. If you own your own home, you could consider your own renewable energy systems. You can find out more about this through the Energy Saving Trust.
