What’s your favourite thing about working at TGP?

  1. AD: The enthusiasm and will of everyone here to keep learning and do things differently, which brings with it lots of opportunity. And my team are the best!
  2. CS: Definitely the people. I work as part of a great team who make coming to work an enjoyable task rather than a chore. I’ve met some awesome people in my 8 years here all across the business and hope to meet many more in the years to come!
  3. DS: It’s got to be the people!
  4. MF: The free coffee. Also that I can’t go one hour without someone on my team making me laugh, no matter how difficult the work is that day.
  5. NA: I like a few things actually (which may come as a surprise to some people!) My favourite thing is how everyone really comes together. I am in the Leeds office so what we do has a big impact on each other so whether we do something for charity or target based everyone really comes together to pull it out of the bag and I really like knowing that the whole team will always go that extra mile for each other.
  6. SW: The people. It’s a mixed bag of nuts but they’re my mixed bag of nuts.
  7. SK: There’s a real community spirit within the area I work in and the wider business. As a long term employee I’ve seen it grow in terms of events organised, and forums of all kinds offering a chance for everyone to have their views heard.

Why did you choose to join the Switched On editorial group?

  1. AD: Other than it kind of being my job, I love that our newsletter is put together by volunteers from all around the business, rather than just coming from one person. Hopefully this means we reflect the voice of our people much more.
  2. CS: Other than my apparent career path of being the Nick Parr of two years ago, I really saw the Editorial group as a way to branch out from my normal work crunching numbers, as well as work alongside people from areas of the business I wouldn’t normally interact with all that much. This is my first edition and I’m looking forward to many more.
  3. DS: I joined the editorial team because it’s an opportunity to add some variety to my day-to-day and also bring me together with people/departments that I might not ordinarily work with.
  4. MF: I love the idea of being part of a team that’s creating something people can enjoy.
  5. NA: I decided to join the Switched On Editorial Group to find out what goes into the company newsletter and how it is all put together. I’m quite nosy so I do enjoy the meetings to find out who will be getting into what. Being part of the Editorial group has enabled me to find out things that me and my team can get involved in such as charity fundraisers.
  6. SW: A deep rooted subconscious desire for attention. That and an obsession with story telling.
  7. SK: It felt like a great opportunity to contribute to the business in a different way. I have enjoyed reading it, and am now looking forward to writing for it.

As this is our anniversary issue, tell us the best birthday present you’ve ever received and why.

  1. AD: My first ever roller skates for my 10th birthday. They had neon laces and I loved them with all my heart. If only I lived in Shoreditch where people still wear stuff like that.
  2. CS: My very first guitar (a Flying V, the first in my collection of 10…). It really took my love of music to the next level and I dreamt one day I’d be headlining Download head banging away playing some epic riffs. I now work in Commercial Forecasting so it’s safe to say that dream didn’t quite go to plan…building databases is still pretty Rock ‘n’ Roll right??
  3. DS: Best birthday present has to be…surprise tickets for Liverpool fc…why…I’m a big Reds fan!
  4. MF: When I was at university my sister mailed me a jiffy bag filled with hundreds of loose Smarties. Greatest of all time, no contest.
  5. NA: A day out to the Sea Life Centre – I love aquariums and at the time I had never been J
  6. SW: Back in the winter of ’89 (Christmas if we’re being specific) I got a Nintendo Gameboy from Father Christmas, which was weird as I’d never met the guy.
Was a little concerned a large, red, bearded fat man knew where I lived and had been in my house, but my parents seemed cool about it so I tried not to worry.
  7. SK: On my 9th birthday, my parents took me on a surprise trip to White Hart Lane for the first time to watch my beloved Spurs. We lost to Man United, and the disappointment served as an important lesson indicating what was to come following the team. But I can still recall the excitement of opening the tickets.

We’re always looking for guest editors and roving reporters for one-off features, so if you have a great idea for a story – maybe you have a passion or crazy hobby outside of work that you want to let people know about, or have just watched a really good film you think others would enjoy, we want to hear from you. Get in touch with any of the editorial team.
