Internal Moves
Let's hear from Housnadevi (Anjee) Raminal, Reconciliation Analyst on her career progression within the company:
Tell us your background and career journey: I am originally from Mauritius and studied languages (English/French) for my first degree. Most people won't know this, but I speak 5 languages and my career goal was to be a secondary school teacher until life happened.
I moved to the UK about 8 years ago and worked in different organizations including Menzies Aviation where I was in a customer service role. I joined TotalEnergies in February 2020 just before the lockdown and worked in Servicing as an Account Manger for almost two years. My role was very much client facing and exposed me to work with different departments including sales, credit and pricing. After working in customer services for a while, I knew I wanted a change!
What was your motivation for changing roles?
I am a very ambitious person and I knew I had more to give. I wanted a role that would challenge me as I had been working in the customer service function for over four years and knew it was time to do something new, so I started looking for new roles within.
Advice for anyone considering an internal move?
1. Trust yourself
2. Be proactive- I knew it was time for a change, so I took the first step, actively looking for opportunities within. When I identified my current role, I spoke to my line manager to understand the requirements and that made me more convinced that I would be a good fit
3. Go On, Apply!- I'm always motivated by a this quote It's better to have tried and failed than to live life wondering what would've happened if I had tried '. What most of us don't realise is that our skills are transferable and it is possible to apply them in new areas/departments.
What makes TGP a great place to work?
I think it's a plus that we have colleagues who have been here up to 25 years, it means the company is doing something right. I love working here for a number of reasons- we are an international company, we focus on our people and wellbeing (I'm also a Mental Health First Aider) and our bonus scheme is great too!
Professional Development
Name and role: Jack Whitehead – Major Business Servicing Team Manager
In three words describe your 6 Critical Practices training experience? Collaborative, Enriching, Reassuring.
What was your biggest learning from the course and how will this contribute to your professional/personal development? One of the practices in particular resonated with me – leading the team through change. As a business and industry we are frequently affected by change so it was good to understand the impact that change has on our direct reports as well as the techniques that can be used to work through these times. Building change into my own development is also something that I will take away as it is something that we are all challenged by, so that can be used as an opportunity to enhance my own development to meet change effectively.
What would you say to colleagues who haven’t been on this training yet? We all have busy schedules but it’s really important to take time away from your desks to meet, share and develop alongside colleagues that you may not necessarily work with in your usual day. This is an excellent course for that as it encourages colleagues to share leadership experiences as well as augment them with new practices and mindsets.
