In February this year we took part in Time to Talk day, a day which promotes the importance of making time to talk and check-in with each other. Although just one day out of the year, we hope the sentiment continues much longer. Problems with mental health can effect anyone, at any time. Stress alone caused more than 15 million days off work across the UK in 2017/18. With the pressurised, busy environment we work in, looking after ourselves and our colleagues and friends has never been more important.

We want to start talking more about mental health and how we can support each other. So to get that conversation started, we asked a few TGPers to share with us their coping mechanisms for dealing with stress…

If you or someone you know are in need of support, here’s a few of the things on offer at TGP:

Employee Assistance Programme – a free phone and online service is available to all employees, their family and friends provided by AXA PPP. Help is available on many issues including consumer rights, relationships, taxation, matrimonial and legal matters, career and employment issues, debt issues, childcare, care of dependants, work/life balance, anxiety and depression.

PPP Private Healthcare – if you opt in to this benefit, they will provide financial support for a variety of healthcare options, including mental healthcare, without the need for a GP referral.

Free gym membership – it’s no secret, getting those endorphins going is great for the mind!

Mental Health First Aiders – we are busy training up some of our colleagues to become mental health first aiders. Watch this space for more information coming soon.

Liz Gregson, HR Director said:

“Here at TGP we take the health and wellbeing of all our people very seriously, and that includes their mental health. We want to ensure everyone is able to deliver their best and be themselves at work, and will always provide support wherever we can. That’s why we are keen to take part in initiatives such as Time to Talk day and Mental Health Awareness Week. We provide a good range of benefits to support our people, but would always love to hear where we can be doing more.”

We’d love to know your thoughts on what we’ve done so far and what else we should be doing. Did you participate in Time to Talk day? Where should we focus for Mental Health Awareness Week in May? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
