Established in October 2014, the Business Change team collaborates with stakeholders at all levels within the business on a variety of different projects to deliver positive change. Whilst projects will have different goals, our primary objective always remains consistent – to support Total Gas & Power in achieving its vision of being ‘the UK’s Most Trusted Energy Supplier’.
We support the business by fulfilling a number of project roles which differ depending on the project type, complexity or scope. Regardless of our role, our job is to partner with the business owner and stakeholders - with accountability directly to the project sponsor. On every project, we follow a structured approach, developed using our experience from previous projects, to ensure change is implemented smoothly and that our employees and customers get a lasting benefit. Most recently, our support on projects has contributed to the delivery of positive changes such as:
- Change Lead on the Smart Metering project, delivering training, helping to form the operational team and managing our first SMETS installation
- Programme manager on Data Strategy ensuring that all data work is controlled and contributes to our ambitions of high quality data as a business asset
- Change Lead on CRM delivering the Leads Management functionality of CRM to Marketing and the New Business team in the Leeds office
- Chair of the Business Efficiency Change Board, facilitating the raising of over 100 change requests since 2018, and those approved saving an estimated minimum of one and a half days in efficiency time savings for each operational user
- Change Lead on Travel Management greatly reducing our travel expenditure and delivering an online booking tool – coming soon!
- Project Sponsor and Project Manager on Aged Queries focusing on the reduction of queries over 60 days
- Change Lead on ASO delivering Assisted Sign On to WNS, coming to UK offices soon!
Additionally, we support the business by creating frameworks which enable TGP to better identify and deliver change initiatives. These include:
- The creation of the Business Efficiency Change Board
- Driving Process Management through the use of Signavio
- The creation of the governance structure for the Transformation Themes
- Establishing operational teams to target specific tasks such as Smart

Meet the Team
Michael Painting – Head of Business Change
Michael joined Total GP in 1997 with a temporary contract of 3 weeks and, since no-one asked him to leave, he’s still here! In October 2013 he was asked to establish a Business Change function. Along with his colleagues in the team, and the wider organisation, he is committed to making Total the best it can be at identifying, executing and delivering the changes required to meet TGP’s vision. A lover of the historical fact he will shoe horn in a quote where ever possible, so here’s one: “there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.” – Niccolo Machiavelli.
Meena Sparkes-Mahi – Senior Business Change Consultant
Meena previously worked in London as a Change Manager in Insurance, joining TGP in June 2016. She is passionate and committed to enabling real and effective change to drive the business forward, with a smile on her face (mostly!). As much as she loves change management, Meena’s first love is travelling, closely followed by food (aka eating her way around the world), having been to 6/7 continents, but since she doesn’t like the cold, Antarctica may not be on the agenda!
Brad Binding – Senior Business Change Consultant

Kris Agrawal – Business Change Analyst
Kris joined TGP in January 2015 and started in Supplier Hub with the HH Team, moving on to Business Change in April 2017. Since then he has helped facilitate the running of the Efficiency Change Board and the building of base process maps for Process Management within Signavio. An avid photographer in his spare time, he also has an interest in world history, but please – don't let Michael know!
James Plater – Business Change Coordinator
James joined the team in January 2018 after graduating from Cardiff University with a degree in Business Management. James immediately began working on the transformation programme and is currently working on a number of different projects including the implementation of a new Travel Management system, CRM and Aged Queries. He can often be found at his desk eating a whole tube of Pringles or preaching the wonders of Crystal Palace FC.
Sonia Cifaldi – Business Change Analyst
Sonia joined TGP in March 1999 and quickly became part of the furniture. She joined Business Change in December 2018 and has since been focusing on process management. Having worked across various business areas both in gas and power she has an extensive knowledge base. Like Meena, her first love is food (any cuisine) followed by Italy and of course going on holidays.
