Charities we're supporting in the UK
NHS Charities
SASH – Surrey & Sussex Healthcare which provides services to East Surrey Hospital
TGP’s donation will be used to support staff welfare, specifically psychological support, starting now and continuing for 12 months. It will also ensure their rest and break areas remain stocked with refreshments.
Leeds Cares
Our donation has paid for:- 10 iPads for patients – supporting education of children and providing vital connections to loved ones.
- 5 hotel rooms for staff who need to stay close by or isolate from their families to keep working.
- 6 comfort packs for staff who have to stay overnight at short notice.
TGP’s donation will be used to support staff welfare as well as supporting patients throughout the pandemic across their 6 sites.
Redhill Ambulance Station - South East Coast Ambulance Service
TGP donated a new TV for their crew room in memory of Redhill-based paramedic, Peter Hart, who passed away on his 52nd birthday, the 12th May 2020, from Covid-19.
Paramedics work 12 hours shifts with a 20-minute break back at their base in Pendleton Road, Redhill. Their wish was to have a new TV to enjoy during their downtime.
As those of you who are regularly in the office are aware, we take frequent deliveries of fresh fruit to energise our workforce. The company we work with is ‘Fruitful Office’. Back in March, TGP agreed to donate the fruit to frontline workers within hospitals, providing them with a healthy snack and energy during their long shifts. These healthy treats are well received as you’ll see from the photographs!

Mental Health
Samaritans
Before Coronavirus hit, The Samaritans had 20,000 volunteers answering a call for help every six seconds. Their helpline is feeling the pressure as more people struggle to cope or are in crisis.
TGP’s donation to the Samaritans Emergency Appeal will help them reach those who are struggling to cope by enabling more volunteers to support those in crisis from home, specifically in the London, Leeds, Newcastle and Redhill areas.
Foodbanks
Renewed Hope Trust
Monday to Saturday, Renewed Hope Trust provide free lunch and refreshments to those most in need. Whilst the ‘drop-in’ is closed, they are giving a packed lunch service and making deliveries to those in need.
TGP has donated enough to meet the demand of 60 parcels per week for 8 weeks.
Loveworks
Loveworks is a foodbank who provide emergency help to those in crisis and a home delivery service to the most vulnerable. Specifically, they provide non-perishable food items in enough quantity to meet the needs of the individual and their family for up to six weeks.
Loveworks have experienced a strain on their food bank resources, including families who will struggle with an extended school break and the many people who are isolating without the means to stock up on food.
Crawley Open House
Crawley Open House is the only year-round residential homeless shelter covering a huge swathe of East Surrey and West Sussex. They have been going since 1994, and today they run a 26-bed high-support hostel, a busy drop-in day centre open 365 days a year, 3 move-on houses and a community outreach team.
People go to their day centre for all sorts of reasons – for a shower, hot meal, to use the computer or get some washing done. Others go to speak to their advice team, hairdresser, GP or counsellors. Many just go for some warmth and company, and to feel they’ belong’ somewhere.
Since the Covid-19 crisis struck they have remained open, with a full hostel, 3 full move-on houses and nearly 100 local people temporarily accommodated to try and look after. They are busier than ever despite much of their income stream dwindling.
TGP’s donation enables Crawley Open House to:
- Feed an additional 70 people with 3 meals a day for a month
- Contribute towards the delivery of workshops to upskill people to help get them back to work – from life skills to growing their confidence.
St. Vincent’s
St Vincent's is continuing to help the Leeds community despite the crisis. The donation that TGP has made has gone directly towards their current effort to help people amidst the crisis. Specifically, it will go towards them buying food, essential items, sanitary items, cleaning products and protective equipment.
Leeds Community Foundation
Through a resilience fund created by Leeds Community Foundation, the 2 organisations that have directly benefited from TGP’s financial donation are:
- Unity in Poverty Action (UPA) - caring for the homeless through simplistic frontline food aid provision.
- CATCH, ‘Community Action To Create Hope’ – a food distribution organisation.
newcastlewestend.foodbank.org.uk
TGP’s donation will be used for food to help all of Newcastle area. Newcastle West End plays an extremely important role at the moment as other foodbanks have not been operating at time when demand is extremely high.
Hospices
St. Luke’s
St Luke’s Hospice is the only provider of specialist end of life and palliative care in Harrow and Brent. St Luke’s location puts them at the epicentre of the pandemic. They cover one of the most densely populated areas of any hospice in the UK and support an ageing population of more than 450,000 people. According to Public Health England, Brent is the worst affected borough within London from Covid-19, and Harrow is in the top eight. This means their local hospitals are utterly overwhelmed.
St. Luke’s care for over 1,700 patients each year, both in their 12-bedded In-Patient Unit and within patient's own homes in the local community. However, due to the pandemic, they are now supporting far greater numbers of vulnerable people, including now taking on the care for everyone living in Harrow and Brent who has been discharged from hospital with Covid-19, regardless of their illness.
With their NHS colleagues under severe strain, St. Luke’s are helping them to provide specialist care, not only for people approaching the end of their lives, but also for sufferers of Covid-19. This means a huge adaptation of their service to help relieve the burden of the NHS, and to give people the best care during these challenging times.
St. Gemma’s
TGP has donated enough to:
- Run their new telephone support line for anyone in Leeds with family members or friends who are critically ill, or who have died from any illness during the Covid-19 period for 2 weeks
- Pay for 16 Facebook Portals enabling patients to see their family and friends virtually whilst strict social distancing measures are in place.
TGP has helped to fund extra staff nurses because it takes so much longer to deliver expert personal care and ensure that every patient feels safe, supported and respected while wearing essential PPE.
We’ve also helped to fund the extra hours needed for their family and bereavement support service. People are devastated because they are not able to visit a loved one before they die. They need lots of support to process a bereavement where they couldn’t share the warmth of a hug or the squeeze of a hand when they needed it most - or weren’t able to hold a funeral with friends and family to support one another.
Elderly
Re-engage exists to support people who are over-75, live alone, and find it hard to get out in normal times. The Covid-19 crisis is particularly devastating for these people and many are feeling incredibly vulnerable, especially those with few family members or friends to talk to.
With the help of their network of dedicated volunteers, Re-Engage has set up a UK-wide 'Call Companions' service. Anyone of this age who’s feeling alone can receive a regular, friendly phone call throughout the crisis and beyond, for as long as they want it.
TGP’s funding enables Re-Engage to deliver the Call Companions service for the 108 older people in the existing networks in Newcastle, Leeds and East Surrey (including Reigate, Redhill and Horley) and to grow the service to reach more older people in these areas through their waiting list, former beneficiaries and established networks of referrers, for example Adult Social Services, health professionals, other charities and care providers.
Specifically, the funding will be used for:
- Volunteer training i.e.: health and safety, difficult conversations, boundaries
- Safeguarding older people i.e. references and ID checks for all volunteers
- Staffing costs to support volunteers
- Recruiting additional volunteers
- Reaching out to more older people, inviting them to join and matching them with volunteers
- Monitoring and evaluation to develop and improve their service i.e.: older people and volunteers will receive a call to ask their opinions on Call Companions at the beginning of their time with us, and after six months
No one should have to face this crisis alone. Re-Engage don’t leave anyone behind.
Domestic Abuse
As well as increasing their presence on the frontline by extending their hours of operation, ESDAS has also identified an increasing need for survivors on lockdown to have access to specialist trauma informed counselling and online recovery services. TGP’s donation will fund further counselling sessions that can be delivered remotely to survivors who are struggling with managing recovery whilst on lockdown, and in preparation for those who will need the service as lockdown is lifted.
Specifically, TGP has paid for 240 counselling sessions plus the supervision needed to enable the sessions to take place. TGP’s contribution will also go towards their emergency fund which allows ESDAS to financially support survivors of domestic abuse and their children at points of crisis and significant need. Many survivors do not have the financial resources to pay for immediate needs such as;
- Travel to refuge or safe accommodation
- Food
- Mobile phones or credit
- Replacement clothing
Leeds Women’s Aid
Leeds Women’s Aid (LWA) is an independent charity which provides a range of the very best services for vulnerable women and families who are victims and survivors of: domestic, sexual & honour-based violence and abuse; forced marriage; trafficking; stalking and harassment. Their services include: Emergency refuge accommodation; 24/7 telephone helpline; drop-in services; healthy relationship programmes; Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs); working with women experiencing complex needs; community development and support & interventions for children and young people.
Due to the lockdown restrictions introduced as part of Covid-19, LWA wanted to offer alternative ways for women and families who need support to be able to contact them in the safest way. It is hard for women to access support most of the time, but if they are isolated with someone they are afraid of, phoning their helpline may be difficult and dangerous. To increase accessibility for support following a 14-day free trial, LWA introduced an online live chat option on their website which is available Monday to Friday 1-3pm and is staffed by one Domestic Violence and Abuse Support Worker.
TGP’s funds enable them to continue with this service now and post-lockdown, which is when they expect to see an increase in women contacting their services. This provision will provide a safer alternative way for people being affected by domestic violence and abuse to get in touch with them.
Domestic abuse in the North East
TGP’s donation will help a domestic abuse charity in the North East continue to support those experiencing domestic violence and abuse. This includes refuge, outreach and support for people at high risk of harm.
