Total Gas & Power have this year become proud sponsors of Reigate's Junior Citizen Scheme, teaching children about issues such as personal safety, drug awareness and first aid. The event, managed by Child Safety Media, sees over 1000 primary school children from the local area take part in a series of interactive safety workshops.
Amy Devlin went along to find out just what TGP's contribution achieved:
" Imagine 60 very overexcited children from Langshott Primary School being corralled by their teachers and a variety of volunteers from the police and fire and rescue service, amongst other agencies, and you have an idea of what a Junior Citizens event looks like. On this particular day, I saw a group of 10-11 year olds hear talks from Surrey Police, RNLI, British Transport Police, Hope UK, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and Children and Family Health Surrey (School Nurses). Kids came away hearing all about how to protect their passwords, how not to get a criminal record from 'sexting' and just how much sugar is in their breakfast.
For some of them, the highlight seemed to be getting a close up look at the Mayoress of Reigate & Banstead's chunky gold jewellery, or as one child called her when asked if he knew who she was, the Queen."
Supporting the communities we work within is really important to us at Total Gas & Power, and our CSR Committee are here to make sure we are involved in our local areas as much as possible. If you know of any opportunities for us to sponsor local events, or would like to know more about the work they do, speak to any member of the committee.
