13th to 17th May was mental health awareness week, and Total Gas & Power participated with a whole range of activities.
Ever since I can remember I’ve always been drawn to the sea - cliff diving, fishing, wind surfing, water skiing - all sports, as long as water was involved. The one sport I really enjoyed most of all was snorkelling, but more being under the water than on top, freediving. Freediving is breath-hold diving, being under the water whilst holding one’s breath with only a set of flippers and a mask…
In February this year we took part in Time to Talk day, a day which promotes the importance of making time to talk and check-in with each other. Although just one day out of the year, we hope the sentiment continues much longer. Problems with mental health can effect anyone, at any time. Stress alone caused more than 15 million days off work across the UK in 2017/18. With the pressurised, busy environment we work in, looking after ourselves and our colleagues and friends has never been more important.

Mark Slater, eCommerce Manager, describes his journey to becoming a bee keeper
I was lucky enough to attend a school where one of the teachers was a bee keeper. In the days before health and safety he was able to install a hive in the school reception with a small hole in the window for the bees to get in and out.
Ibstock Brick is the largest clay building products manufacturer in the UK - making over 400 different bricks. The manufacturing of this capacity of bricks results in them being a significant energy user. As a market leader they believe that they have the responsibility to lead by example when it comes to energy management and energy use reductions. Over the last decade they have invested over £75 million in energy efficiency projects.
Sometimes it’s time to talk. But sometimes we don’t find the time when we should and sometimes there is not anyone around to talk to. Maybe then the question is “how are you breathing today?” Take a minute and watch (without judgement if you can).
The Sales year got off to a slow start but the upward trend is positive news with February above target.
How well do you know your Jameses? Your chance to find out has arrived. Specifically I’m referring to our two Commercial heads; namely Head of Retail Pricing James Hughes, and Head of Products and Propositions James Turner.
Mr Hughes is responsible for defining our retail pricing strategy which in turn supports the business' objective of optimising value and volume growth. This includes developing an understanding of competitor pricing, alternative approaches to measuring customer value, and predicting their behaviour so that we can effectively segment and manage different customer groups.
Mr Turner is responsible for the developing, launching and ongoing management of TGP’s gas and electricity products as well as defining and implementing our approach to other adjacent markets such as Electric Vehicles and solar.
I can’t say any day within TPI is the same, my routine changes depending on my diary. There are two main kinds of day. An ‘office’ one and an ‘on the road’ one.
I’ll start with a typical day on the road. We have a number of partners that we work with; I manage these relationships alongside a team of Business Development Managers and Account Managers. Generally days out of the office start early and on a train up north to either Newcastle, Leeds or Liverpool where a lot of my partners are based. After battling the tube and escalators across London with a wheelie bag (something I always look forward to), I then attempt to battle with the train Wi-Fi for a few hours. I generally lose this battle and so I’ve learnt to do planning or to catch up with what is going on in the industry.
