This issue’s Spotlight star Coral Newby started life at TGP in 2012 within a department that no longer exists and is hardly referred to (in Lord Voldemort-like terms, They Who Must Not Be Named). Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of this team, Coral moved to Utilitywise Sales under the insightful leadership of one Aidan Dempsey, who she assures me shaped her into the person she is today.

Macmillan

This September we joined in with the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, helping to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Lots of staff in the Redhill and Leeds offices put on their baking hats and produced some amazing sweet and savoury treats. With queues literally out of the door, it’s fair to say the people of TGP like cake. And raising money for charity, of course. Together, we raised an amazing £318.17, which the Charity Committee has doubled to make a grand total of £636.34. Take a look here to find out more about the brilliant work that goes on at Macmillan.

Congratulations to Philippa Day for winning the competition in July’s Edition of Switched On...again! Philippa must have been hanging around lots of black cats as she was also our competition winner earlier this year. All winners are chosen completely at random, but remember, you've got to be in it to win it.

Comms Days and Summer Social
[fa icon="calendar'] 08-Oct-2018 13:32:47 / by Editorial Team posted in TGP News, Communication Days
September was an exciting month at TGP with our 2018 Communications Days. These events are an opportunity to bring people together to meet colleagues old and new, find out how we are performing and plan for TGP’s future together. This year we took a slightly different approach and held the events at Hindleap Warren, an outdoor activity centre. Being in the fresh air gave us a proper break away from the ordinary, and was also another way we could support our charity partner. Fiona Humphreys from Hindleap Warren did a fantastic opening to the day where she explained our relationship and the many ways in which we at TGP have supported them over recent years. We also got to explore the outdoors in an orienteering exercise. Special mention for this must go to The Baigels who rose to the challenge and managed a perfect score!

Offshore dispute between Total and Unite
A dispute over working conditions on three North Sea platforms operated by Total will go to the independent arbitration service Acas. Workers on the Elgin, Alwyn, and Dunbar platforms who are members of the Unite union have taken part in several 12- and 24-hour strikes; their concerns include a move to a ‘three weeks on and three weeks off’ rota. A spokesperson for Total said: "This is a constructive step forward and we look forward to renewed talks to help resolve this dispute."

A day in a life of Nick Parr

Routine is always something I’ve had a love/hate relationship with. In many ways each day for me is very similar. I arrive around 7:15am – often later depending on the lottery that is Southern Rail’s timetable - and walk the corridor as one by one the lights switch on beckoning me to my desk. I make a coffee and write a list of things I need to get done that day. It’s at this point that the regularity stops; like many people across the business, no two days are the same for me. This is something I’ve grown to like and always something I’ve had in my different roles with Total.
Top 5 Things To Do in Valletta, Malta
[fa icon="calendar'] 27-Jul-2018 08:58:49 / by Meena Sparkes-Mahi posted in Take a break, Wellbeing, Travel
Not far from Sicily, Malta is a small island (17 miles long) and has centuries of history, first inhabited in 5200 BC and long-used as a Naval base due to its strategic location. Malta has had its fair share of tragedy – notably the Ottoman Empire’s ‘Great Siege of Malta’ and the part they played in WWII, awarding them the unfortunate accolade of the most heavily bombed country per square metre. The capital of Valletta has extensive shopping and a great nightlife, restaurants and trendy wine/whiskey bars covering the compact city centre. And the views… well you will have to see for yourself, but let’s just say – breath-taking.
